Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, located within the College of Health and Human Services, is seeking temporary/part time faculty, for the 2024-2025 Academic Year, with the ability to teach in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Athletic Training
  • Exercise Science
  • Gerontology
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Healthful Living and Fitness Education
  • Public Health
  • Recreation, Sport Leadership, and Tourism Management
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Physical Activity and Wellness

The 2024-2025 Academic Year includes the following semesters:

  • Summer 2024
  • Fall 2024
  • Spring 2025

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Undergraduate course teaching: Masters degree with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Graduate course teaching: Terminal degree in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Those with equivalent verifiable professional experience, certifications, and licensures in the discipline may also be considered.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The

UNCW Exercise Science program is a competency-driven curriculum for students who are interested in applying the scientific principles of exercise, fitness, health and wellness within the clinical, government, corporate, industrial, private, commercial and academic venues. Exercise Science students must complete the exercise science core courses and then, choose one of two concentrations: The Allied Health concentration or The Exercise Physiology Certification concentration.

The Allied Health concentration provides a platform leading to careers such as, but not limited to, physical therapy, physician assistant, occupational therapy and clinical exercise physiology.

The Exercise Physiology Certification concentration, when combined with nationally-recognized certifications, leads to careers such as, but not limited to, personal training, strength and conditioning specialist, commercial/corporate employee fitness director and exercise physiologist.

The Exercise Science program is housed within the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (

SHAHS) which is a large and growing academic unit with over 1600 students and 58 full time faculty. See: . The

SHAHS currently has six undergraduate degree programs:

  • Public Health
  • Exercise Science
  • Healthful Living and Fitness Education
  • Tourism, Recreation, and Sport
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy

The

SHAHS also has Master of Science degrees in:

  • Athletic Training
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Gerontology

The

SHAHS also supports :

  • Masters of Arts in Teaching ( MAT) through the Watson College of Education
  • Masters of Education concentration in Physical Education and Health through the Watson College of Education

The

SHAHS is also home to the

WPA/L 101 Physical Activity and Wellness program which delivers courses that fulfill University Studies requirements. The Exercise Science program and the

SHAHS is located in the newly constructed Veterans Hall () which includes many state-of-the-art instructional and lab spaces.
