Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Animal Control Director, performs skilled work of average difficulty relating to the care of the shelter animals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages office and support staff in coordination with volunteers from Animal Relief Fund

Maintains personnel and attendance records

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reporting

Assists with maintaining the sanitary condition of kennels, cages, adjacent areas and related equipment

Responsible of enforcing State laws and County ordinances

Responds to citizen calls for service and coordinates animal control response

Understands and performs basic animal care including cleaning and feeding animals, medical care, and restraint and infection control procedures

Provides animal related information to public, including social media postings; responds to questions regarding animals and rabies control issues; assists with vaccination and license clinics

General knowledge of the care and feeding of animals and the methods of cleaning and sanitizing animal kennels

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, volunteers, other agencies and the public

Performs all aspects of animal adoption

Perform duties in varying terrain and weather conditions

Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicate in person, over the telephone and on the radio

Excellent oral and written communication

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and be able to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and County vehicle as needed

Performs additional duties as assigned
