We are seeking a manager for the Mechanical Engineering team in the Mission Systems Ejection & Propulsion department. This manager will lead the Mechanical Design discipline for Propulsion platforms, responsible for developing new energetic products, adaptive engineering of existing energetic product lines and sustaining current energetic product lines. They will have accountability over a staff of Mechanical Design Engineers and their deliverables to their supported programs. This manager will also support department activities to improve efficiency, ensure predictable execution, and keep talent/staff engaged.

This role may be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct management of engineering team including hiring, career development and mentoring.

  • Lead the sustainment of existing and creation of new designs to meet system/customer requirements.

  • Accountable for meeting program requirements including cost and schedule.

  • Interface with program chiefs, program management and program leads to assure technical goals are achieved.

  • Collaborate and build trust with the other engineering departments to ensure requirements are met and designs have predictable performance.

  • Key stakeholder for the design definition at the Material Review Board (MRB) and Configuration Control Board (CCB).

  • Communicate with internal and external customers to provide technical information, engineering recommendations, action plans and risk assessments.

  • Oversight of all procedures and processes being adhered to by the team.

  • Implement best practices and improve efficiency.

  • Responsible for capturing lessons learned and implementing corrective actions.

  • Support and drive continuous improvement activities to improve engineering and site processes.

  • Support Pursuit to Order Capture activities including bidding & estimation efforts for design and development of new designs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • 5+ years experience in Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience primarily with Mechanical Engineering tools; PDM, modeling (NX preferred), GD&T, stack up analysis, analysis of complex engineering problems, etc.

  • Experience leading Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis with an understanding of Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis.

  • Experience in prioritizing and managing workloads in a highly dynamic environment.

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience in Managing an engineering team.

  • Experience with energetic engineering is desired but not required.

  • Strong understanding of MRB process from a technical execution perspective.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers.

  • Self-Motivated, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to drive projects to completion.

  • Must possess a good understanding of manufacturing processes, understanding of design for manufacturability and design to cost.

  • Strong continuous improvement skills and customer focus, with ability to multitask multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD - 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
