The Opportunity

The Pressroom Supervisor position is responsible for pressroom and ink lab operations, supervision of staff throughout shift, oversee all scheduled print projects, ensuring efficient, quality-oriented production, meeting schedule and budget requirements, while promoting and maintaining a safe work environment and meeting departmental goals and expectations. This position is a 2nd Shift position from 3:00 pm to 10:30 pm.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Supervise workers in the press and ink department; provides support, counseling and direction when needed; provides both positive reinforcement and discipline when needed

  • Review projects prior to production for accuracy and to ensure that prerequisites have been met prior to scheduled production; coordinate any changes required for accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Communicate project plan with crews prior to the start of manufacturing, verifying that all necessary materials (plates, stock, ink, chemicals, etc.) are present and accounted for to begin manufacturing project, resolving any issues prior to the start of production.

  • Provide press operators assistance as required to acquire color ok and signoff if needed, (approve color, register, position, etc.).

  • Daily review of quality pull, compare to SAOK to determine quality level of project leaving department; identify any deficiencies that may need to be addresses and quarantine loads for sorting as necessary as well as verify proper caution load flags are being utilized.

  • Assist pressroom manager as necessary during multiple customer color okays.

  • Assist with the direction of crews and departmental activity during pressroom managers absence due to vacation or illness.

  • Identifies, documents, and drives departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Scrap and any other metrics required by the Company.

  • Ensures compliance to all Company policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees follow safe work practices and SOP’s.

  • Conducts timely performance reviews of employees, providing fair, thorough, honest feedback.

  • Develops methods of enhancing morale and promoting teamwork within the Press Department as well as among other departments.

  • Leads effective shift meetings.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • Must have high school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of sheet fed press experience working with conventional and UV inks.

  • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to do the jobs he/she is supervising or to quickly gain a working knowledge of those jobs.

  • Must have knowledge of, or be able to learn quickly, safety rules and procedures, operating, maintenance, and technical policies and procedures.

  • Must be efficient in basic computer skills.

  • Must have effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must have good mechanical aptitude.

  • Must have the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or scheduled form.

  • Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

  • Must have ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Must be dependable and reliable.

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
